The advantages of the traditional lithium-ion battery coupled with the safety features of phosphates, makes the lithium iron phosphate battery the technology of the future. This new system uses a non-toxic disposable battery that has a much longer lifecycle than the older battery system. Also, because fewer of these new batteries are required to power the various on-board electronics and other systems in a triple-slide coach, there is a tremendous weight savings as well.

“By changing to the new lithium iron phosphate battery technology, we were able to eliminate 1,150 pounds of total weight from our H3-45 Triple-Slide model,” said Frank Konigseder, vice president of Liberty Coach. “Additionally, whereas the older batteries typically would last about three years, these new batteries have on average a 10-year life cycle.”

While Liberty Coach is very happy with the performance and environmental benefits of this new system, going green doesn’t necessarily come cheap. The lithium iron phosphate battery system has a higher price tag than the previous battery system. However, some of this additional cost is offset by the battery’s increased life expectancy which also helps save money when getting a coach ready for resale.

Many high-end motor coach owners trade in their coaches every two or three years. Up to now, when a coach was being made ready for resale, typically the batteries were one of the first things to be replaced. This new system may change all that.

With this new system, all batteries communicate on a proprietary network which continuously monitors each battery cell. The status is displayed on an output monitor that enables Liberty Coach to utilize the generator automatic starting system more efficiently by controlling the start/stop of the generator based exclusively on amp hour usage.

“The history of each battery is maintained in a non-volatile log which can be retrieved at any time,” Konigseder explained. “This may eliminate the need to replace batteries on used coaches in the future since we now have an accurate way to determine the need based upon the actual usage of the batteries in each coach.”

This system is now being installed on all Triple Slide H3-45 models. By mid-summer, the company anticipates installing it in the double-slide models as well which will save 500 pounds of total weight in those coaches.

Liberty Coach continually researches and tests new systems, materials and components to make sure the most reliable, user-friendly, and technologically advanced systems are being utilized in their coaches. Generac® Introduces New Hybrid Electrical System for Recreational Vehicles http://www.rvnewsdaily.com/article.php/20091125092910460 http://www.rvnewsdaily.com/article.php/20091125092910460 Wed, 25 Nov 2009 09:29:10 -0500 http://www.rvnewsdaily.com/article.php/20091125092910460#comments RV Related Waukesha, Wis. – November 25, 2009 –- Generac Power Systems, Inc., the leading manufacturer of residential and commercial standby generators, along with Magnum Energy and Precision Circuits, have introduced a new Hybrid Electrical System for recreational vehicles (RVs).

As today’s motor coaches have all the bells and whistles and comforts of the home, they are using far more energy than ever before. The appliances and accessories that need to be powered are increasingly more sophisticated and advanced and need a dependable, clean power source. Generac has partnered with Magnum Energy and Precision Circuits, Inc. to introduce the first Hybrid Electrical System to deliver all the power needed for large RVs without having to install a larger, more costly generator.

“For more than 50 years, Generac has garnered considerable expertise in producing small engines, providing innovative and value-driven generator products for the residential, commercial and RV industries. Generac’s staff of talented engineers is responsible for creating this opportunity to expand the company’s RV product offerings, developing a cutting-edge system to answer consumer needs for a better power solution on the road,” states Bill Slavik, director of RV OEM, Generac. “This new power management system allows consumers to now have all the comforts of home without the increased energy costs.”

According to Slavik, the new Hybrid Electrical System can save up to $3,000 on the cost of a larger generator and weighs 270 pounds less – thus, increasing fuel savings and lowering emissions. This smart power management system begins to supply power to the coach one circuit at a time – keeping all start up spikes in energy to a minimum. This allows the system and the Generac generator to run up to three separate air conditioners at one time. If peak demand exceeds the output of the generator, the inverter turns on and supplements the power. If the battery voltage drops too low, the Hybrid Electrical System will begin to shed non-critical loads until a balance is maintained. Once the peak demand is over, the system begins to return service to the preselected loads supplying seamless, clean power.

Generac has been providing quality RV generators since 1970 and introduced the first gaseous-fueled automatic home standby system in 1989 which has been the leading brand ever since. Trade associations estimate 2008 sales were 33% below those in 2007. And while sales are picking up in 2009, many dealers are finding it hard to stay open for business, let alone make money. But one dealer has defied this trend, finding success in this market with a solid game plan.

“The McGeorge difference is not just a slogan,” says Ed McNamara, President of McGeorge’s Rolling Hills RV SuperCenter. “Our value-added programs and commitment to service are designed to make the purchasing and owning of an RV a great experience for each and every customer. Our greatest source of referrals is from existing customers.”

Sales/available income at Virginia’s largest dealership is up 2.5% in volume over last year, and their profit margins in service have skyrocketed. McNamara credits a focus on customer-centric benefits as an important differentiator in their marketplace. Customers value the extra benefits they receive from the dealership and EasyCare, like 24-hour roadside assistance, 24-hour tech support, free EasyCare KeyCare key/key fob coverage and 30 days of EasyCare Personal Assistant, that come standard with every McGeorge RV.

Training programs are also a key investment for the dealership. Salespeople are sent off-site for specialized instruction, as well as monthly on-site classes. Service technicians also train for certified and master designations, enhancing the customer’s overall experience and satisfaction.

“The team at McGeorge’s has always had a strong emphasis on training, and has eagerly participated in every program we’ve offered,” says Kurt Harbeke, head of the RV division at EasyCare. “This approach of value-added benefits with superior service levels has been a winning combination for them.”

McNamara adds, “We have found that investing in staff and long-term partners pays off with the greatest dividends. We work to improve all facets of our dealership—we believe that long-term success comes from doing 100 things 1% better every day.”

About APCO/EasyCare
Automobile Protection Corporation – APCO is the leading independent provider of automotive benefits specifically created to enhance a consumer’s vehicle buying and ownership experience in ways that create long-term bonds between the consumer and their dealership.
